2020 Hyundai Kona Muskogee, OK

In a segment as competitive as the subcompact SUV it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd. The Hyundai Kona, however, makes it an effortless task. Despite the short time this model has been on the market for – it made its debut for the 2018 model year – the Kona has been able to carve a niche for itself in a very crowded class. Blending a sporty look, engaging driving dynamics and a well-equipped cabin, this subcompact looks and feels more upscale than its price would suggest. For 2020, the Kona keeps turning heads and winning new adepts as it goes by. Would you like to know what specs and features make this model a fan-favorite? What Makes the 2020 Hyundai Kona so Compelling?

The 2020 Hyundai Kona comes in five trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited and Ultimate. The first three models are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 147 horsepower and is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Limited and Ultimate models come with a peppier turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, delivers 175 horsepower. No matter which trim you choose, though, the Kona delivers nimble handling and a fun driving experience. In terms of efficiency, both powertrains earn an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 30 combined mpg, but the base engine drops city mpg from 28 to 27, and the turbocharged engine drops highway mpg from 33 to 32.

Even the most affordable Kona – starting at $20,300 – comes equipped with a large list of features. A 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, two USB ports, Bluetooth®, a six-speaker audio system, and a 3.5-inch black and white instrument cluster display are all standard. The SE trim also includes some driver-assistance technologies such as lane keep assist and auto emergency braking. Higher trim levels expand the list by adding the following features:

  • 8-inch touchscreen with navigation
  • 8-speaker Infinity premium sound system
  • Wireless device charging
  • Head-up display
  • Blind-Spot Collision Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning
  • Proximity Key with push button start
  • Eight-way power driver’s seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Leather-trimmed seats
